Monday Night Football," which 36 years ago was one of ABC's biggest
gambles in television history and is now headed to cable television.
The effect Monday Night Football had on the formation and popularization
of the NFL. Bringing high profile games into the living rooms of the
nation's sports fans during prime time built MNF into a tradition. ABC's
marketing of MNF made it into a must-see event. 2008 ESPN will broadcast Monday Night Football games - taking the
event away from ABC.
Monday Night Football remains the
highlight of the week during the NFL regular season every fall. Usually
having the best match-up and then broadcasting it during prime time when
the most sports fans can watch it have proven a successful formula.
Monday Night Football continues being broadcast, by ESPN now, and will
continue to be one of the focal points of every NFL season.
ESPN will kickoff its
2008 Monday Night
Football preseason schedule with the New Orleans Saints at Arizona
Cardinals Thursday, August 7 at 8 p.m. ET. ESPN's commentator team of
Mike Tirico (play-by-play) and analysts Ron Jaworski and Tony Kornheiser
will call four NFL preseason games during the month of August – three on
Mondays and one Thursday – in anticipation of their regular-season debut
on Monday, Sept. 8. All preseason games will begin at 8 p.m.
NBC, meanwhile, gets back into the NFL picture with a six-year deal to take over
the Sunday night telecasts previously owned by ESPN.
With the move of Monday night games to cable, a tradition will be altered, if
not ended. After all, "Monday Night Football" has been a pillar of ABC's
programming since it began in the 1970's.

The team bet on must win by the point spread given at the time of the wager. For straight wagers, unless otherwise indicated, the odds are $1.10 to win $1.00. Games that tie are considered "no action" and money is re-deposited back into your account. Due to changing events, the point spread may fluctuate at any time.
Example: Player wagers $110.00 on Cleveland -6 to beat +6 If San Diego wins by more than 6 points the player wins $100.00 so the total payout including the initial wager would be $210.00. If Cleveland only wins by 6 points then the game is considered "no action" and all money is returned to the bettor. If the Cleveland wins by less than 7 points the wagers is lost.
